Position Overview

The Accounting Manager supports Vitala with bookkeeping operations and accounting responsibilities, to ensure a data-driven approach to financial decisions. The Accounting Manager maintains impeccable records of the organization’s books by collecting, tracking, correcting, and communicating the financial position of the company according to applicable law. They record transactions, compile and analyze data, perform audits, assist with budgets and financial forecasting, compute taxes, and report their findings to management and other entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintains records of financial transactions by establishing accounts; posting transactions; ensuring legal requirements compliance.
  • Ensure sustainability of the system to account for financial transactions by establishing a chart of accounts; defining bookkeeping policies and procedures under the Finance Director’s lead.
  • Maintain subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions according to the budget allocation.
  • Balance subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
  • Maintain general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries.
  • Assist the Director of Finance in building and maintaining a robust internal control system for Treasury operations and bank management.
  • Prepare Balance general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
  • Maintain historical records by filing documents.
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.
  • Compile with applicable legal requirements by studying requirements (local and international); enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  • Assist in the communication and compliance with the organization tax accountant.
  • Provide the Finance Director with key accounting data to ensure clear and up-to-date reports.

Qualifications

We are looking for dedicated feminists who want to make a difference in this world. In addition, being the Accounting Manager requires the following:

  • Proven experience of 3-5 years as a an accountant: Professional Certification Validation: CPA, CMA, or equivalent);
  • Knowledge of Canadian accounting system, tax compliance and cross-borders regulations;
  • Fluency in using QuickBooks and relevant accounting software, e.g. invoice management and tracking tools;
  • Prior experience with staff payroll and contractor payment accounting processes;
  • Prior experience with assisting and/or creating financial reports in collaboration with Finance Lead/Director;
  • Desirable: prior experience in tech and/or nonprofit organizations, and assisting in the grant/funds management;
  • Have access to a private computer that is password protected with internet access during scheduled working hours;
  • Availability to be online and work between 8 AM and 2 PM EST;
  • English proficiency written and spoken for communication with the Vitala team;
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills;
  • Must be able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, quickly changing environment;
