The French Embassy in Abuja is seeking a Press Officer to join their team.

  • as well as disseminating appropriate messages to local and international media as needed.

Job description:

  • You will work within the press and communication department of the French Embassy in Abuja, interacting with various departments of the embassy and the consulate general in Lagos, as well as their French, Nigerian, and other country counterparts. You will be co-responsible for press and communication issues. You will work within the chancery, under the authority of the First Counselor and under the guidance of the Political Counselor, Head of the Press and Communication Department.
  • You will contribute to implementing France’s strategic communication and public diplomacy objectives in Nigeria. You will develop a good understanding of France’s priorities in Nigeria and, in collaboration with the relevant teams, identify how to optimize communication to support France’s international objectives.
  • You will assist Team France in designing and implementing high-quality, high-impact media campaigns and events that promote a positive image of France and highlight its partnership with Nigeria.
  • You will contribute to the organization of visits at all levels, ensuring that they receive appropriate media coverage. You will build and maintain a network of contacts across the spectrum of Nigerian and international media, to ensure a deep understanding of the role of the media in Nigerian society and enable constructive engagement with these actors.

Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Required:

  • University degree (Bachelor’s level minimum) and/or relevant professional experience.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills.
  • Proficiency in one or more local languages would be a strong asset.
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and take initiative in a dynamic environment.
  • Good knowledge of office software, major social media platforms, and the Nigerian media environment.
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate communications under pressure.
  • Strong networking skills and ability to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Previous experience in public relations, marketing, or media, including event management and implementation of communication plans.
  • Skills in creating and editing image, audio, and video content would be a strong asset.

Contract Type: Fixed-term contract (12 months) with a 3-month trial period

Working Hours: 38.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday

Salary: Press Officer – Level 6 of the salary scale in force, i.e. 881€ gross (paid in the equivalent amount of naira at the current exchange rate)
